Matchers

Yes! We’re not a business - we are a chessed organization. And we’re eager to get everyone involved in making shidduchim to help out with this critical צורך ציבור. To that end, we try to make the matcher onboarding process - and your ongoing role as a volunteer - as easy as possible for you.

We’re looking for matchers who are kind, understanding, and sympathetic. We trust you to give advice only when it’s solicited, and to refer daters to professionals when warranted. Among other criteria, we’re looking for matchers who are 22+ years old, and married.* If this sounds like you, please apply here!

* We require our matchers to be married in order to avoid conflicts of interest.

Not too much! We want this to be manageable for you. Traditionally, a shadchan comes up with an idea for a match. Here, we pass that work on to the daters themselves. So, what’s your role on Canopy?

1. You onboard a minimum of 6 daters: 3 men and 3 women. Onboarding requires reviewing and advising on dater profiles, Zoom interviewing the dater, and calling references.
2. When your dater matches with someone, you may be assigned to coordinate the dating process, as in the traditional shidduch system.
3. You maintain a 1:1 ratio of men to women daters, which may require recruiting daters when your ratio falls out of balance.

That’s it! Your involvement may be very little work and a very small time commitment!

Correct. You won’t have access to dater profiles, except the ones you onboarded and any dater that your daters have matched with. We ask the daters to determine their own matches, by deciding whether to pursue one anonymized profile per day.

As a matcher, you’re asked to pitch in once a match is already made, that is, once two daters have chosen to move ahead based on each other’s anonymous profile. At this point, they will each have received each other’s full shidduch resume and we may ask you to serve as the go-between. Daters might ask you questions or ask you to relay whether it’s a yes or no.

Our goal is to maximize shidduchim, so we don’t want to limit any of your other shidduch activities. As far as we’re concerned, you can be involved in all the shidduch groups and organizations you’d like! Tizku l’mitzvos!
